Things that happened to us this week:
1. I felt both babies kicking. Not just kicking, but REALLY kicking. They play "Rock 'em Sock 'em" in there nightly and it's the best thing ever...until you wanna sleep. Then, it can be mildly annoying, but still great.
2. We learned the genders of each baby, and nope..we're still not telling. Wait your turn.
3. My cervix went from a fluffy 5.1cm to a very funneled 1.35cm in a freaking day. One. Day. No idea why. I had upper GI pain and was sent to the hospital. Once the attending checked me out, I was sent to ultrasound. No one saw anything out of the ordinary at all. They saw two magic beans fluttering around in there, growing very well, which was the only explanation for my GI pain. Baby B (aka "the artist formerly known as C") had grown and pushed my liver, stomach and gallbladder out of the way. Aside from growing beans, they also saw a huge funnel in my cervix that shouted "labor onset", and refused to let me stand from that moment on. I was wheeled (on the damn ultrasound table, mind you) up to a room and admitted. Talk about scary! At 17w5d, I was too early for any real intervention. Viability is usually 24 weeks of more.
4. I had an emergency cerclage surgery the next day. My OB and MFM both thought I wouldn't make it anywhere near term without it. Fine by me, Sarge! Sew it up! I had general anesthesia and got prepped for the two docs to double stitch my hoo ha with thick yarn-like thread (their description, not mine). Everything went well and I was sufficiently cared for over the next two days. We were released yesterday after copious threats of hospital bedrest if I didn't stay in my bed for a minimum of one week.
5. I'm starting to go slightly nuts from being confined to my bed. The hubs is working, so friends and various peeps stop in to check on me, cook, clean, and make a general fuss. It's great having the company, but entertaining from one's bed leaves a LOT to be desired. That gets rough. Well, that...and not being allowed to shower if I'm home alone. I'm dealing though. Anything for my beans!
We'll get a recheck from the OB tomorrow, and a look-see from the MFM doc Friday. If all is well, it's back to work on light duty and weekly visits. If not, it's back to hospital jail and being woken up for meds, glucose testing, and general bother every 1-2 hours. Bah humbug.
I'll be sure to check back in with updates on my impending sentencing...hopefully with clean hair. LOL. Man, I miss "getting ready".
